This Bendable Bike Can Tie Itself to Any Post

alternative transportation, bike locks, how to lock your bike, great bike locks, self locking bike, self locking bicycle, great bicycle locks, urban bike locks

We Inhabitat writers have had our fair share of bicycles and bicycle parts stolen on the mean streets of New York City. It seems these days you’ve got to lock everything down (even the brakes!) in order to keep your cycle intact. That often means buying more than one lock and disassembling your bike every time you leave it unguarded. Kevin Scott hopes to change all of that. He just unveiled his revolutionary bendable bike. That’s right, with the push of a lever the cycle becomes bike-Houdini and can wrap around any post making it easy to secure all its parts with just one lock. No more clunky chains? Sign us up!

Hang Nga “Crazy House” is a Creepy Fairy Tale Treehouse in Vietnam

hang nga, hang viet nga, crazy house, crazy treehouse, treehouse hotel, vietnam, dalat, gaudi architecture, eco architecture, green design, eco hotel, eco tourism, weird hotel, spooky hotel, crazy hotel

We’ve seen some cool treehouses here at Inhabitat, but never as zany as this creepy hotel in Dalat, Vietnam. Unlike regular treehouses, which sit upon the branches of trees, the Hang Nga Guesthouse (a.k.a. “Crazy House”) actually is a tree (although some of it is concrete and other materials). Named for the architect who built it, Hang Viet Nga, the spooky hotel is known for its Alice in Wonderlandish, dark fairy tale mood and wildly organic twists and turns. Would you stay at this weird and wonderful treehouse retreat?

Petronas takes measures after oil sheen find

PETROLIAM Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has taken emergency measures to shut down production pipelines at offshore platforms 240 kilometres off the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia after a thin layer of oil sheen was sighted. The sheen was sighted near facilities operated by Petronas' production sharing contractors, comprising Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc and Newfield Peninsular Malaysia Inc, Petronas said in a statement today. Efforts are ongoing to identify the source of the sheen, using remotely operated underwater vehicle as well as subsea pipeline tests, said the national oil corporation. As per standard procedure, emergency response and oil spill teams, including those from the Petroleum Industry of Malaysia Mutual Aid Group and East Asia Response Ltd, were mobilised to the area. All relevant authorities, including the Department of Environment, were informed, Petronas said. The contractors have cleaned up the majority of the sheen and are now monitoring the situation via aerial and marine surveillance, it added. BERNAMA
