The best out of Singapore – Sentosa – Malacca – Kuala Lumpur

posted by Chrisandmarta
So far we passed by some huge metropolis and very tourist places starting from Hong Kong then Singapore, Sentosa Island and Malacca and we just arrived once again in another city this time the capital of Malaysia: KL = Kuala Lumpur.

Even me at the moment I can’t take any more city’s sightseeing. I think a couple of nights is already enough to spend in each mentioned place to get a taste of it also since Singapore as HK is a pricey destinations to stay. The thing we most enjoyed overall was just to have a stroll around. Despite Singapore is a huge city we found it very handiest and relaxing; a walk around Little India, the Arab Quarter, Chinatown, the Boat Quay was a pleasant way to get the mix flavours of this city and its people.

My favourite place in Singapore was the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and it happened there was a ceremony going on when we visited it which created a great atmosphere. Unfortunately we didn’t manage to visit the Zoo or enjoy the night safari but I read good reviews about it ... let me know if we missed out something.
We would had avoid instead a trip to Sentosa Island which we found it to be only an amusement island that looks like a TV set so much that Chris thought to be on a Baywatch episode or better “Cargoshipswatch” due to the immense amount of cargo ships just off shore (if you arrive by air you will see what I mean, it looks like the game naval war).
Melaka is a pretty but small village which we stopped along the way to KL but there is nothing really exciting going on. The historic core of the city is around Dutch Square and Chinatown and it can be seen in a day or even few hours but two days make it for us a relaxing stay.

We just arrived today in KL after a 3 hours bumping journey by bus from Melaka. As we stepped out from the bus I though “gosh another city” since I was intoxicated by the exhaust's smokes of the many buses at Pasar Rakyat Bus Station but I’ll leave the last word till tomorrow when we are out there wandering around.

Tips:
  • if you arrived in Singapore late in the day without a hotel’s reservation, head directly to the Geylang district. Little India is full of accommodations but if you are after a double room at a cheap rate is not the best place to go although we were tempted to check in to a hostel’s dorm along Dunlop Street for SGD 20 each for 2 nights. We instead spent SGD 99 for 1 night at the Hotel 81 Selegie, ouch! We moved then to the Geylang, the red district, where you could find a room at any times of the day for around SGD 50 and on a safe neighbourhood;
  • from Singapore to Melaka there is only 2 or 3 connections daily by trains but if you opt to go by bus there are many departures from different parts of the city every hour. In our case it was also more convenient as the departure point of the Malacca-Singapore Express happened to be only two bus stops from the Geylang. Note that the train will also leave you 38 km out of Melaka while by bus only a 10 mins bus ride from the historical centre;
  • in Kuala Lumpur we got a great deal out from Agoda.com for 1 night free out of a 2 nights stay at the Prescott Inn so we ended up paying only MYR 60 per night for a superior room which is even less than a guesthouse room with share bathroom.

Credit Crunch sparks ‘price war’ amongst prostitutes in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur: The current credit crunch has apparently sparked a “price war” amongst prostitution syndicates after many decided to offer “crazy” discounts in Kuala Lumpur.

According to Harian Metro, women were being offered at heavy discounts for the “crazy promotion for massage and services”.

The tabloid alleged to have received “crazy promotion” pamphlets from groups operating from spas, offering as much as 40 percent discount.

A 45-minute session was being offered for about RM158 to RM188, as compared to the previous price bracket of RM200 to RM250.

The Star Online reported that Alex, a “spa worker”, revealed the discounts were essential since the client number had taken a dip following the recession.

He further alleged that only a few spas had been offering such services, but “now even hotels are promoting these women.” (ANI)

Pak favours hosting Australia on home soil

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wants to host Australia in a proposed one-day series in April at home, a board official has said. the-pakistan-cricket-board-pcb Pak favours hosting Australia on home soil

The official said the PCB wants to resume international cricket in Pakistan, and added that a series against Australia will be a major step towards that direction.

He rejected reports that the PCB is planning to host the series that will include five One-day Internationals and a Twenty20 game in Kuala Lumpur or any other offshore venue.

“We would only explore the option of a neutral venue if Australia expressed any security concerns,” the official said on condition of anonymity.

“Our first target is to host the series at home in a successful manner because it’s very important for Pakistan cricket that top teams come and play here,” The News quoted the official, as saying.

The PCB official was reacting to reports that Australia has reiterated its preference to play the ODI series in Pakistan.

The Australians had postponed their tour of Pakistan in March-April last year citing security concerns, following the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto.

However, Cricket Australia assured the PCB that it will send its team to Pakistan on two separate occasions in 2009.

Last week, there were reports in the Pakistani media that the PCB is considering staging matches in Kuala Lumpur, fearing another pullout by Australia.

Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, and Chief Operating Officer Saleem Altaf are believed to have visited facilities in Kuala Lumpur last month after attending an Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting.

A CA spokesman said he was not privy to the plans outlined in the reports, and while he admitted any tour of Pakistan would again be subject to a security assessment, he indicated that Australia were keen on touring Pakistan, where they haven’t played since 1998. (ANI)
